Gary Skillen and Lois tune in to earthly vibrations.

Dowsing
by Lois

When my producer and I discussed Dowsing as a possible subject for the series, I have to say that I was a curious. Before I started to research it, I thought it was only used to find water. Needless to say, Dowsing is used for many other applications.

Following are some excerpts from his interview featured in New Age of Aquarius.

"Gary claims that he gets his reaction and knows about 5 or 6 feet before he gets what the Dowsers call a hit."

Gary Skillen has been a successful and professional Dowser for over 12 years. He primarily searches for water and, although they don't like to admit it, is sometimes hired by mining companies to find large mineral and gem veins. More recently Gary has been using his Dowsing tools to help people overcome sleep disorders and emotional problems.

Dowsing dates back thousands of years with the first dowsers probably being the indigenous people without the tools. They would go out hunting for days and know their way back to their village. How did they know that?

When I asked Gary how Dowsing works, he explained that Dowsers are seeking the truth and so they put forth a question to the universe and get an answer using their subconscious. According to Gary, Dowsing involves 85% of the sub conscious.

In Germany a scientist called Betts did research on Dowsing where he hooked up a Dowser to a brain wave machine that measured skin and muscle response in the arms. All of the Dowsers that were used in the study had noticeable muscle and skin response before they came upon the water or minerals that they were dowsing for. Gary claims that he gets his reaction and knows about 5 or 6 feet before he gets what the Dowsers call a hit.

There are a couple of different types of tools that are used for Dowsing. The Y rod is what was traditionally used and is seen in cave drawings. These were traditionally made from a Willow branch, but any type of tree can be used as long as it is flexible. Today, nylon Y rods are used because of the ease in which they bend. The L rods are slightly different. They are bronze in a plastic sleeve and Gary has trained his body to tell him the answer to the question. If it is yes the rod will turn to the right, if the answer is no it will turn to the left.
