Age of e composer - Sam Reid

by Lois

I've always loved relaxation music, in fact I included 2 of Australia's leading musicians, Ken Davies and Tony O'Connor, in my last series, New Age of Aquarius.

"The music from his Sanctuary Collection is some of the most beautiful that I had ever heard."

Sam Reid was suggested as a possible inclusion in Age of e. I was told that he was a member of one of Canada's most well known pop groups from the 80's Glass Tiger. I hadn't actually ever heard of them and was quite embarrassed when I listened to their CD. Don't forget me when I'm Gone was a number one hit all over the world and when I heard that song I knew exactly who they were. Glass Tiger was also nominated for a grammy in 1985 for best new artist. I was curious as to why the band broke up and Sam was now recording relaxation music. I thought this would be a great interview.

We arrived at Sam's home which doubles as his recording studio. It's a beautiful property that sits right on the lake and I understood why Sam had chosen to work from his home.

I thought Sam was charming and quite a talented man. We hadn't yet found a composer for the series and, even before we began the interview, I felt that Sam would be perfect.

The interview flowed perfectly. I think the most exciting part was when Sam took the crew and myself out to his studio and started to play. The music from his Sanctuary Collection is some of the most beautiful that I had ever heard.

As we were leaving I asked Sam if he would consider composing for the series. He agreed and we set up a meeting to discuss what it was that we were looking for.

After we had finished shooting the segments, we forwarded them to Sam who took a look at the final edit. From there he selected tracks that he thought would be appropriate for each segment. He has a real talent for composition. Every track that he selected for the episodes was appropriate. For Feng Shui he decided on a song that had just the right elements. The interview with Doreen Virtue was set to music that was so heavenly I could almost hear the angels singing.

I think that music is one of the most important parts of a series and Sam Reid's compositions really made Age of e a first class production.
